First Day

Hello Parents,

I just wanted to let you know that we had a great first day here at school! There was lots of
  •  laughter
  • sharing about the summer
  • learning routines for... walking in the hall, recess, bathroom, work-time, whole group meetings etc.
  • We worked on a "Top 10 Things to Know About Me" activity  (ask your child what he or she chose to put on their list)
  • We met classmates with a "Toilet paper square" activity
  • We shared the book First Day Jitters
  • The children had guidance for special
  • We wrote and solved math equations on a "Figure Me out" activity
  • we did some ice breakers including one called, "4 square questions"
Thank you so much for sending in so many school supplies! The students will LOVE using them this year.

Tonight you will find a RED FOLDER in your child's back pack. This is their homework/notices folder. This folder should come to school with your child each day and come home with your child each night.  Tonight you will find a brown bag in your child's folder. For homework,  the students were asked to put an object in their brown bag that tells the class something about them (for example: picture, sports trophy, etc). It can be any object that fits in the bag. They will be sharing their objects with the class tomorrow. Keep an eye out for some important back to school forms in their red folder.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Dear Families,

The end is so close and I think we are all smiles about that! It was a challenging 4th grade year on all levels, and your young scholars have learned an incredible amount. It has been a very rewarding experience for me to be able to have all your children in my classroom.  They have each taught me a little something and have made teaching a much richer experience. I will never forget our crazy year together! I hope that you are pleased with all that they have learned. I know all the hard work and skills they developed will make next year run a little smoother.

I am very proud of how they persevered and stepped up to each challenge to reach their goals, individually and collectively! Thank you again for all your support and guidance.

I greatly appreciate how understanding and kind you all were. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. I enjoyed having the opportunity to work with you all, to create a caring and supportive team which helped each of your young scholars succeed to the best of their ability.

I wish you well in the years to come, and I hope that you and your family have a relaxing and calm summer! I will miss you all!

All the best,

Laura Frost

THE WEEK AHEAD

Hello Families,
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.  We had such a fantastic field trip last week! I will be posting pictures on our class blog. Make sure to check them out!

MAP testing
4th grade will be taking spring MAP assessments ton Monday and Wednesday this week. The tests will be in the morning from 9:00 a.m.- 9:50 a.m. Students will have a break for snack, special and recess, then they will continue from 11:20-12:20.  Monday is the Reading test and Wednesday is the math test.  Please remind your child to get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast.

Salmon Release
As part of our scientific study of Atlantic Salmon, 4th grade classes will be visiting a tributary of the Royal River on Friday, May 11th.  Our goal is to release our salmon fry into the wild. We will not need chaperones for the this trip. The field trip will be 8:55-10:30 a.m. We will miss our ordinary P.E. time in the morning, but we will have P.E. in the afternoon at 1:30. Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather, and conditions as our activity will take place mostly outside. If you could have your child wear boots that would be great as the conditions may be muddy. Permission slips will come home tomorrow. Please sign and return it by Wednesday.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
Laura

Valentine's Day

Hi Families,

Next Wednesday, February 14 is Valentine's Day.  If students would like to bring in Valentines,(this is optional) they must have one for every student. There are 23 students in our class.

We will also be decorating white paper bags to hold our Valentines.  If you would like to send in Valentine stickers to decorate the bags, please bring them in on Wednesday as well.  The stickers will be shared with classmates.

I understand that many Valentines come with candy attached.  Students will be reminded to wait until they are home to eat the candy.

Thank you for understanding and helping make this a fun activity! ❤

Sincerely,
Laura

Future Engineers

Hi Families,

It looks like we have some future engineers in room 306.  This week we started our Motion and Design unit in Science.  The students worked in groups to design and build a vehicle out of K'nex that would travel 100 cm.  This afternoon they used a technical drawing to build a vehicle.  I attached a few photos of their vehicles.

At the end of this month I will be sending out a link to sign up for winter conferences. Conferences will be in February and I will be passing out report cards when we meet.

50 degrees felt wonderful today! It was nice to see the kids running around at recess without hats and gloves the last few days. It's too bad this weather won't last long.

Enjoy the long weekend!

GO PATS!
